St. Albans – State Representative Corey Parent (R – St. Albans) announced today that he’s a candidate to represent Franklin County and Alburgh in the Vermont Senate.

“I want to thank the people of St. Albans for allowing me the honor to serve on their behalf for past four years. I also want to thank Senator Carolyn Branagan for her service to the people of Franklin County.” Parent said.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to campaign in my home county and to speak with folks from across our corner of the state about their dreams and hopes for the future and how we can build a county that’s truly affordable for everyone.” He added.

“It is imperative that we have leaders in Montpelier that are focused on growing our economy, strengthening our workforce and making Vermont more affordable.”

Senator Randy Brock (R-Franklin) offered his support for Corey’s Senate bid. “I’ve known Corey since he was a teenager. Over the years I’ve watched him develop a keen understanding of the issues facing his generation and our state. I’ve also seen him develop into a smart, hard-working and compassionate leader who will serve the people of Franklin County and Alburgh well in the Vermont Senate.”

Senator Dustin Degree, who represented Franklin County from 2014-18 and now serves as Special Assistant to Governor Phil Scott, offered his support to Parent. “Corey has been a strong and consistent voice for the people of St. Albans. He understands our values and will be a tireless advocate for the people of Franklin County and Alburgh. I am confident he, along with Sen. Brock, will serve us well for in the Vermont Senate.”

Parent was first elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2014 and was reelected in 2016. Parent has served on the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee and is currently Ranking Member of the House Energy and Technology Committee.

Parent, 27, lives in St. Albans Town with his wife Samantha and their golden retriever Charlie. They are expecting their first child in July. When he is not in Montpelier, he works for Hickok & Boardman Insurance in St. Albans. Parent also serves as Treasurer of the St. Albans Skating Association, on the Board of Directors for Franklin County Home Health Agency and the Samaritan House in St. Albans. He is a graduate of BFA-St. Albans (2008) and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Economics and Government from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY (2012).
